There is a $10 application fee to be considered for adoption.  Payment of this fee is not a guarantee of being approved for adoption. To begin the process, please click the Apply Online button below. You must be at least 25 years old to adopt from us.

Are You In Our Area?

We adopt to the Houston area and surrounding counties (including Waller, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Montgomery) as well as other regions that may include Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, etc. if we have a volunteer that is able to conduct a home visit at that time.

Some Things We Require After Adoption

All dogs adopted from HADR must attend a basic obedience / training class within six (6) months of adoption. This is required to encourage bonding with your new pet, to reinforce what he has learned in his foster home and to address any potential issues that may arise. HADR is a tremendous resource and we work with adoptive homes proactively and provide guidance after the adoption.  Adoption of a rescue Doberman is a lifetime commitment.

Pet overpopulation is a tragic and overwhelming situation in this area.  Over 85% of animals turned in to local shelters are euthanized.  The numbers are staggering and this includes purebred animals as well as mixed breeds.  Therefore, because there is a direct link between casual, backyard breeding and pet overpopulation, we require ALL pets in your household to be spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations and heartworm prevention.

Are You Ready?

Are you ready for the commitment and expense of a new dog? While love and attention are critical to the well being of any pet, there are additional financial considerations that should be taken into account before you adopt any pet.  These include proviging high quality pet food, routine vet care, monthly flea and heartworm prevention, toys, crates, training, and pet deposit fees if living in a rental.  Additionally, you must be aware that just as with people, there will be occasional emergencies that arise that will require extra care and expense to treat.

Are you familiar with the Doberman breed? This is not a dog for everyone. They are highly intelligent and require owners who can provide both mental and physical stimulation. They also like to be a part of their owner’s lives and do not do well in extreme temperatures. If you want a Doberman because he “looks cool” this is not the dog for you!

As a potential adopter, you should arm yourself with all of the information you will need to make an informed decision about whether a Doberman is a good fit for your family.  The link below provides a good outline of the typical Doberman temperament.  Keep in mind that each Doberman is unique and, as our Dobermans come from varied circumstances, these traits may be more prevalent or recessed in particular dogs.  Given this variable, we take great efforts to match each dog with a home that has a similar activity level and suitable personality.

Yes, I want to take the plunge!

1. Complete an adoption application. You may complete the online app or print a hard copy and mail it to our post office box. Please be sure to complete the entire application.
2. We will review your application upon receipt.
3. If we determine that your application meets our criteria, we will contact you to schedule a home visit.  The purpose of the visit is to verify information from your application and to help us match you with a Doberman that will complement your lifestyle.  Please make sure all members of the household are present at the home visit.
4. After the visit is complete and you are approved to adopt from HADR, you will get to meet the dogs!

Oftentimes adopters have preferences about the physical appearance of a rescue dog.  In the Doberman’s case it can range from color, to age, to ears.  Keep in mind that a dog that has the “look” you want may not be the right fit for your family.  The more open and flexible you are with your requirements, the quicker we can match you with the perfect dog and the more successful this match will be.

Adoption Fees

An adoption fee and state sales tax will be collected based on the age of the dog adopted.  This fee off-sets the cost of veterinary services, spay/neuter charges, and microchipping charges incurred by HADR.  Once you find your new Doberman, the adoption contract will be executed and the adoption fee collected. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards.  The cash and check fee for dogs less than 1 year old is $433, $325 for dogs more than a year old, and $217 for dogs over 7 years old. The credit card fee for dogs less than 1 year old is $446, $335 for dogs more than a year old, and $225 for dogs over 7 years old. Remember, HADR remains a valuable resource for you and your new adopted pet!
