Can you foster a dog?
If you think about it the dogs that are up for adoption HAVE to go somewhere, so Foster Homes become the backbone of HADR. Without dedicated, caring, patient foster homes our mission to rescue, rehabilitate and place Dobermans would be impossible.
APPROVED FOSTER HOMES REMAIN OUR MOST URGENT NEED! PLEASE CONSIDER VOLUNTEERING. Contact us. (The more foster homes we have, the more Dobermans we can rescue!)
Want to Foster? What does this entail?
Fostering a Doberman is an extremely rewarding experience. Along with the hard work comes so many great rewards.
Rescued Dobermans, like any other breed of dog, need safe, secure foster home environments. Sick dogs or those with medical conditions need a home where they can be nursed back to health; the abused animal needs to feel safe and secure on their road to wellness. Foster homes are the key to this effort. Read what one foster family thinks about fostering. All HADR foster homes are carefully screened and approved.
Our foster home parents need the following:
- Attend a four hour training class where they are taught basic care.
- Utilize a crate (which encourages feelings of security for the new pet in its new "home")
- Provide exercise and stimulation for the pet.
- Commit to at least six months of fostering or until the pet is adopted.
- Complete our online Foster Home Application (or the offline MS Doc version and mail it to HADR 5925 Kirby, Suite E #755 Houston, Texas 77005).
- Set aside some time for a home visit. (We need to see what kind of environment the dogs will be fostered in).
The Foster Home will be responsible for the following:
- Provide loving and nurturing homes.
- Providing food and care.
- Responsible for transportation to and from medical visits.
- Administering monthly Heartworm preventative.
HADR will provide the following:
- All vet visits.
- Any heartworm treatment or other medical care.
- Medicines, when and if necessary.
All foster homes have the support of the entire HADR organization. There is always someone to call and get assistance from.
Our goal is to rescue as many wonderful Dobermans as possible. Won't you please help us and these great dogs?
